10" Geometric Brickwork

Geometric shades can be created in any shape, size, or color. This 10" Geometric Brickwork shade was commissioned by a local client who requested a deep midnight blue glass. The brickwork positioning of the glass tiles gives the shade additional interest. The shade is shown on the Ruffle base (lamp height 17").

20" Poppy

The 20" Poppy is a classic Tiffany Studios lamp design. The pattern exhibits an economy of line that is both pleasing and balanced. The horizontal band of leaves resting upon lower border rows grounds the design while the vertical leadlines representing the slender flower stems ascend towards the top of the shade. Each stem supports a bud or open flower. The 20" Poppy has pierced metal filigree on the flower centers and behind the leaves, giving the shade added depth.

Commissioned by a West Coast client, the shade is shown on the Twisted Vine base (25.5" tall).

Lamp of the Week Returns - 20" Dragonfly

After a summer vacation, we are resuming our popular Lamp of the Week postings. Each Thursday our posts will showcase works we have made in the past.

The multicolored background of this 20" Dragonfly was cut from a five color textured glass. The granite textured background glass gives the shade a sparkling surface which the dragonflies dart across. The shade is shown on the Twisted Vine base (25.5" tall) and was commissioned in 2018 by a client in Iowa.

Dogwood Ball Lamp

The Dogwood Ball Lamp is a unique combination of shade and base. The tall and slender base supporting a delicate orb has the feeling of a graceful Art Nouveau fantasy. This unusual lamp is now in a private collection in Texas.

The 10" round shade is held aloft by a special six pronged crutch on the Artichoke Trumpet base (total lamp height 30.5"). This shade and base are only sold as a complete lamp.

Inspired by the flowering tree, the 10" Dogwood Ball shade has a non-repeating design of intermingled flowers, leaves, and branches. For the densely clustered flowers we chose a variety of colorfully tinted white glasses. Enhancing the springtime appearance of the piece, the sparkling sky is a one of a kind fracture/streamer glass that scatters shots of green, purple, pink and light blue throughout the shade. Upon receiving the lamp, our client remarked that it gave the feeling of a magical setting in an Arthur Rackham illustration.

22" Dragonfly and New Jr. Floor Base

The 22" Dragonfly is one of Tiffany Studios most popular shade designs. The shade lends itself equally for use as a large table lamp, floor lamp, or chandelier fixture. The shade is shown on the Large Lion's Foot base (28" tall, telescopes taller). The addition of a Pigtail cap adds a lighthearted touch of whimsy to the piece.

Set against a background of mixed blues and greens, nine dragonflies encircle the lower part of the shade, and their wings and heads create an undulating lower edge. The upper background of the shade is encrusted with 126 pressed glass jewels in a delicious assortment of colors (each dragonfly also has jeweled eyes). These jewels were pressed at our studio in the 1990's using bronze molds made from original Tiffany jewels.

We are also pleased to present a new floor lamp base, added to our catalog of reproduction Tiffany bases. The Smooth Jr. Floor base perfectly compliments a wide variety of 22" shades (plus 20" domed shades and 25" helmet shaped shades).
Cast in bronze at our local foundry, the Smooth Jr. Floor base has an elegant simplicity and clean line. The base begins with four feet which support a smooth cushion pod base. The base has 6 lights and a permanent Tiffany 5" wheel at the top.

The 22" Dragonfly shade is shown on the Smooth Jr. Floor base with the Teardrop cap, which finishes the lamp succinctly. The shade was created as a studio showroom piece and is now in a private collection.

Chain Mail Lantern Fixture

One of Tiffany Studios most unique lighting concepts is the Chain Mail Lantern. Moorish in inspiration, a large reticulated onion dome shaped cap supports a flowing curtain of glass.

Constructed completely by hand, each piece of glass is encased in a metal framework and each unit is joined to the others by small loops in a process we refer to as weaving with metal and glass. The result is a glass chandelier that is both open and airy. Chain Mail Lanterns can be made with any color of glass and for this piece we chose a gold lustre sheet glass.

When the fixture is unlit, the glass surface picks up the reflected light and shimmers. The lantern itself is 9" wide and 18" tall (top of loop to bottom of curtain). With a ceiling canopy, the shortest length for the entire fixture is 25" when made without chain. With the addition of chain as shown in the top photo, the fixture can be made to any desired length.

This Chain Mail Lantern is currently available for purchase from our studio showroom.

16" Fern

The 16” Fern is an early Tiffany Studios shade pattern that elegantly combines the naturalistic depiction of a plant form with a stylized graphic sensibility. With just under 1000 individual pieces of glass, this delicate design is highly detailed and boldly symmetrical. At first glance, this low domed shade gives the impression of being a geometric pattern. Upon closer inspection, the pattern is revealed to be a floral shade, with the recognizable long stems and leaves of a fern. The upper border and geometric lower border give the design a peaceful balance.

The Greek Urn base is a classic Tiffany Studios design. Originally conceived as an oil burning lamp, this base has an elegant balance that perfectly compliments any 16” shade. The base was created at Century Studios using molds taken from an original Tiffany Studios example. This lamp was commissioned by a client in New Jersey.
