28" Lemon Tree

The 28" Lemon Tree with Birds is a Century Studios original shade design that we added to our lamp offerings in 2007. Designed by Bill Campbell, the complex shade takes its inspiration from a Tiffany Studios pictorial wall mosaic.

Groupings of blue and yellow birds nestle among tree branches laden with ripening fruit. Bill selected a tropical color palette for this impressive shade, with a strong emphasis on yellow, green, and turquoise. The rich browns of the intertwining tree branches play against the other colors in the shade. Ring mottled, rippled, and streaky glasses blend harmoniously together to create a lamp that has interest close up and from afar.

This example was commissioned by a client in Pennsylvania as a Christmas gift. The shade was completed in time for Christmas and has been installed as a chandelier fixture.

Lamp of the Week: 20" Jonauil Daffodil

Tiffany Studios created lamps with daffodil motifs in many sizes and shapes. The 20" Jonquil Daffodil shade is the only design to showcase two varieties of daffodil within the same pattern. Commissioned in 2013 by a New York client, this example has a sunny color pallette of delicate yellows and light greens. A pale blue sky peaks about the foliage, giving this complicated pattern a light, airy feel. The shade is shown on the Decorated Library base.

Lamp of the Week: 28" Magnolia

One of the most recognizable and formidable Tiffany Studios shade designs is the 28" Magnolia. This generously proportioned shade can be used as a chandelier fixture or on a Senior Floor Base. Created in 2013 for a client in California, this shade has the feeling of a warm, sunny afternoon. The glass is  a joyful mix of light amber, pink, and white which is enlivened by the rich chocolate brown used for the branches and verdant green budding leaves that dot the surface of the shade. The extensive use of drapery glass in the flowers gives the shade a striking, three dimensional presence.

10" Japanese Crests

In December, we completed a new shade design for a local client. The 10" Japanese Crests shade uses stylized motifs for the background, with ten different Japanese family crests, or Kamon, placed around the shade. Each symbol was hand painted and kiln fired. The crests indicate a family's lineage and status from ancient times. The shade is shown on an antique base belonging to the client.

14" Arrowhead

Tiffany Studios produced a wide variety of lamps with pond and water plant themes. The 14" Arrowhead shade is inspired by the arrowhead plant (Syngonium podophyllum), a plant that grows beside ponds and marshes. The distinctive shape of the leaves gives the plant its name, and this popular landscape specimen is often found near water features on golf courses. For years, this shade has been mislabeled "arrowroot", but the original Tiffany price lists correctly identify this shade as #1418 14 in. Arrowhead Tall Cone (see Tiffany Lamps and Metalware, 2006 by Alaistar Duncan).

Commissioned by a client in Columbus, Ohio, the shade was created in subtle variations of green and white. The calming effect of this blended coloration is enlivened by the white flowers with yellow centers. The shade is shown on the bulbous Shell Urn base. The squat body of the base is supported by the three feet which lighten the look of the base.

Lamp of the Week: Calamondin Orange Tree

The 18" Calamondin Orange Tree lamp is a Century Studios original design. Calamondin Orange plants blossom and bear fruit simultaneously, lending inspiration for this colorful shade. With just under 2050 individual pieces, the shade features a wealth of detail and is the most elaborate lamp we offer. Sprightly white blossoms and ripe fruit intermingle with lush green foliage against a golden background tinged with blue and green. Mounted on the sturdy Tree Trunk base, the shade begins with its crown of cast bronze intertwining branches at the top, the shade cascades downward to its irregular lower edge. Created in 2014, the lamp shown resides in a Chicago area collection.
