Lamp of the Week: 16" Apple Blossom

The 16" Apple Blossom shade is an elegantly rendered Tiffany Studios pattern with a strong Japanese influence. Created in 2008, this lushly colored example features jeweled flower centers. Bill Campbell hand chipped thick pieces of amber glass until they were the size and shape needed for each center. This unusual technique, in conjunction with the rippled leaf glass, gives the lamp shade a three dimensional look. The shade is shown on the Flower Petal (w/arms) base. The lamp was made as a showroom piece and is now in a private collection.

10" Pansy

The 10" Pansy is an original Century Studios lamp design. Taking inspiration from Tiffany Studios 16" Pansy shade, Bill Campbell created the pattern in 2013. Shown on the airy Dandelion base, this recently completed lamp was commissioned by a client in California.

Set against a background of blues and purples, the multicolored flowers are a summery mix of blues, pinks, oranges and light yellows. Lively green leaves are sprinkled throughout.

Lamp of the Week: 22" Dogwood

Like many flowering trees, the dogwood was a favorite subject for Tiffany lamps and windows. The 22" Dogwood is generously proportioned, with large flowers are set against multiple horizontal rows which give the design structure and suggest an architectural framework. We created this shade in 2016 as a studio showroom piece and it is now in a private local collection. Springtime colors blend in a lively mix with pink and white flowers set against a multicolored blue background. The numerous border rows were selected from a variety of glasses that add color and texture to the shade. The shade is shown on the Perforated base (26" tall, telescopes taller).

14" Geometric

Commissioned by a client in Florida, this 14" Geometric shade imparts a warm glow. The lightly mottled golden glass perfectly complements the simplicity of the piece. The shade is mated with the highly detailed Mushroom base (16" tall).

Lamp of the Week: 16" Daffodil

With no decorative border rows to reign in the flowers, the 16" Daffodil has a carefree, windswept feel. For this shade, we chose a sunny yellow background glass that deepens to an amber/green mix on the lower portion of the shade. The fresh green leaves and stems provide a crisp contrast to the warm amber tones in the shade. The shade is shown on the elegant Greek Urn base (overall lamp height 22"). We created this piece as a showroom example in 2017 and the lamp is now in a private local collection.

16" Geranium

The 16" Geranium is one of Tiffany Studios' more inspired lamp designs. If there is one flower that represents summer more than any other, it is the ubiquitous geranium. Bursting with colorful blooms, geraniums thrive in both the garden and the flower pot.

Anchored by border rows of multicolored ripple glass, the lower portion of the shade is covered in the plant's distinctive leaves. Set against a pale purple and gold background, Bill Campbell chose an impressionistic mix of mottled leaf glasses to give the shade a sun dappled appearance.
The flowers at the top of the shade are a lively mix of red and deep fuchsia with hints of pink.

This colorful shade is shown on the versatile Small Stick base (20" tall). This lamp was created for our studio showroom and is now in a private collection.

Lamp of the Week: 16" Fish

The 16" Fish is one of our favorite Tiffany Studios shade designs. The shade shows a school of five Koi gently swimming in a pond, weaving amongst plant life. With their elegant swirling bodies and filigreed fins and tails, the fish form a rhythmic design across the surface of the shade. In many cultures, Koi symbolize good fortune, success, and prosperity. Koi come in different colors, each with its own meaning. Yamabuki, or Golden Koi symbolize riches, wealth and prosperity. We created this shade as a showroom piece in 2014 and it is now in a private collection. The shade is shown on the highly detailed Cereus base.

When creating a shade for our showroom, we look to our library of glass for color inspiration and challenges. Sometimes, as is the case with this shade, we will select a piece of glass that we would not normally associate with a particular shade design. For this Fish shade, we began our glass selection by choosing an unusual piece of golden yellow ripple with deep red swirled into it. This glass became the the backdrop for the various green water plants. The Koi were then cut from a sheet of subtle yellow/green glass that had an undercurrent of peach. The completed shade has a warm, golden tone that radiates a tranquil glow.
