Lamp of the Week: 16" Persian

The 16" Persian Shade with Chain Mail is a geometric lamp with an exotic look.  The sunny yellow geometric upper and lower portions bookmark a decorative band of arabesques in accent tones of green and orange. Three rows of Chain Mail have been added to this shade, giving the piece an unique profile. We can add Chain Mail to almost any shade, and it is especially effective on chandelier fixtures. The lamp was commissioned in 2012 by a client in Kentucky and is shown on the willowy Grooved base (26" tall).

16" Fern

The 16" Fern is an intriguing shade pattern. At first glance, this low domed shade gives the impression of being a stylized geometric pattern. Upon closer inspection, the pattern is revealed to be a floral shade, with the recognizable long stems and leaves of a fern. Set against a light yellow background, the fronds are a medium green glass mixed with hints of amber. Commissioned by a local client, the shade is shown on the elegant Greek Urn base (lamp height 21").

Lamp of the Week: 16" Black Eyed Susan

The 16" Black Eyed Susan is one of several Tiffany Studios shade designs where clusters of flowers are presented simply against a geometric background. Eliminating the naturalistic setting, the groupings of flowers have the look of botanical drawings. The background glass shifts from white at the top down to a fresh, lightly mottled green. The classic lines of the Small Stick base (20" tall) make if a perfect mate for most 16" and 18" shades. This lamp was created in 2006 and is in a private collection.

16" Snowball

The 16" Snowball shade is often mistakenly called a Hydrangea, but the original Tiffany Studios price guides name the shades they created as Snowball. Snowball Vibrunum plants have round flower heads that start off green and turn white as they mature, while the Hydrangea flower heads are conical.

Covered in flower clusters that cascade down the sides of the shade, the Snowball has an unusually deep bullet shape. The irregular lower edge gives the shade a natural look. Against a deep blue sky, thick branches at the top support the dense foliage that makes up the lower two thirds of the shade. The heavily mottled white and linen colored flower clusters are tinged with green, while the leaves are selected from a variety of green glasses tinged with off white.

This lamp was commissioned by a client in Massachusetts and is mated with the unusual Six Light Lily Pad base. Six "stems" ascend from the cast bronze base upward into the shade, each ending in a light. Due to the depth shade, the lights are positioned at two levels within the lamp. Both the shade and base were created at our studio.

Lamp of the Week: 28" Daffodil Cone

The 28" Daffodil is covered in flowers reaching skyward on slender stems swaying gently in a light breeze. The distinctive flowers are a sunny combination of ring mottled, streaky, and textured glasses, while the stems and leaves are blended together from over ten different shades of green. Around the lower portion of the shade, the background mixes deep blue, purple and green which lightens to a perfect sky blue at the top of the shade. Commissioned by a client in Vermont in 2016, the shade is installed as a chandelier fixture.

14" Tulip

Tulips are a sure sign of Spring and this 14" Tulip shade has the light, airy feel of a fresh Spring day. The lower portion of the shade is clustered with cheerful green leaves from which crisp pink flowers reach skyward. For the upper portion of the shade, a custom made fracture streamer glass with dabs of pink, green and white was chosen to add a sparkling brightness to the lamp.

14" shades are the perfect size for beside tables or as accent lamps in any room. Shown on the Penguin Foot base (17" tall), this piece is currently available for purchase from our showroom.

Century Studios will be closed Wednesday May 8 through Monday May 13.

Lamp of the Week: 14" Dragonfly

Dragonfly lamps have always been Tiffany Studios signature shade pattern. Created in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, the 14" Dragonfly is the smallest example in this family of lamps. Six dragonflies hover over the surface of the shade that is inset with pressed glass "jewels". For this example, a multicolored glass with green, blue, purple and pink was selected for the main body of the shade. Purple winged dragonflies with green bodies interact with blue and green jewels to form a wide band around the bottom half of the shade. Commissioned by a client in Washington state in 2013, the shade is shown on the Pony Tree Trunk base (16" tall).
