22" Elaborate Peony

With over 200 pieces more than the standard 22" Peony, the 22" Elaborate Peony is an aptly named shade design. This complicated lamp pattern has also become known as the Windswept Peony, but it is called "elaborate" on the original Tiffany Studios list.

The multitude of pieces in this complex floral design are like brush strokes in an Impressionist painting, and Bill Campbell took a painterly approach when selecting the glass for this shade. When viewing this lamp from a distance, large Peony flowers in full bloom are seen clustering about the surface of the shade. As one gets closer to the lamp the viewing experience changes and the focus shifts to the nuanced variety and complexity of the interplay between the individual pieces of glass.

Commissioned by a client in Texas, the shade is mated with the Perforated base. This base telescopes and can be set at different heights. The whimsical Pigtail Cap visually extends the profile of the lamp upwards with a playful touch.

From the Century Studios Archives - 16" Fish 2014

The 16" Fish shade is one of our favorite Tiffany Studios shade designs. The shade shows a school of five Koi gently swimming in a pond, weaving amongst plant life. With their elegant swirling bodies, filigreed fins and tails, the fish form a rhythmic design across the surface of the shade. Created as a showroom example in 2014 and later purchased by a local client, warm amber tones were used throughout the shade. The shade was mated with the highly detailed Cereus w/arms base.

Preparing the Lamp Form

As we progress with the foiling on the 22" Elaborate Peony shade, it is time to prepare the lamp form. To hold the pieces of glass in place for soldering, the Fiberglas form is coated in a layer of sticky wax. We heat up our in-house made beeswax-based mixture and paint onto the form so we can transfer the foiled pieces and hold them in place.

Lily Lamps

This past week, Irwin Terry has been busy working on several lily table lamps. The reproduction 7 Light Lily Table Lamp was commissioned by a local client. Blown glass flowers elegantly rise up on slender stems from cast bronze lily pads. This exceptional lamp was mind blowing when it was first introduced. Every part of the lamp represents an element of the plant, including the light bulb which is the stamen in each glowing flower.

Along with the 7 Light, Irwin also completed a 10 Light Lily Table Lamp.

While Irwin was busy working on the metalwork for the lily lamps, Bill Campbell has been choosing the glass and composing a 22" Elaborate Peony shade. Now that the lily lamps have been completed, Irwin will join Bill in the construction of this lamp.
