16" Fish

Commissioned by a West Coast client, this colorful 16" Fish shade was made to mate with our new Arrowhead Mosaic base. The rich oranges and greens of the shade are reflected in the color of the glass mosaic on the base. The client requested a rich brown patina with very little green on the bronze base.

Lamp of the Week:

There is a simple elegance to the 16" Geometric Cone shade that radiates a calming aura. A lightly mottled, olive toned green glass was chosen for this shade. The shade, shown on the Small Stick base, was created in 2014 for a couple in Indiana.

New Lamp Base

Century Studios is proud to present the newest addition to our ever expanding line of Tiffany lamps - the Arrowhead Mosaic Urn base. This is the first lamp base to be created from scratch by our studio. Original Tiffany examples of the Arrowhead Mosaic Urn base are exceptionally rare. Other versions of this base are usually made in a smaller scale, resulting in 16" shades overpowering the base. Our version is scaled to compliment 16" shades.

We began the process by researching photos and viewing an original base. There were many steps involved in making our adaptation of this lamp base, beginning with creating the gourd shaped blank on which to sculpt the leaves. Many hours were spent sculpting in clay and wax, and multiple intermediate molds were needed before we arrived at our final version.  Once the body of the base was cast in bronze, iridescent glass mosaic tiles were cut and fit for the spaces between the leaves. The bronze was then given a patina and the shade support and electrical elements finished. The Arrowhead Mosaic Urn base works with any 16" shade.

Lamp of the Week: 25" Rose Bush

This 25" Rose Bush shade was created as a showroom piece in 2005 and is now in a local collection. The lush red roses are highlighted with yellow, purple and white. The blue background glass for the lamp was created at Century Studios. The shade is shown on the Arc base.

Scarab Lamp

Tiffany Studios adapted the Egyptian scarab beetle motif into many interesting objects such as ink wells, stamp boxes, wall sconces, jewelry and this striking Scarab Table Lamp. In ancient Egypt, the scarab symbolized rebirth, transformation, and resurrection which is why they are often depicted in many ways within tombs.

This petite accent lamp is only 9" tall and 6" wide, yet it commands your attention when you see it in person. The lamp consists of a one piece iridescent green glass shade in the shape of a scarab beetle that is supported by a pair of arms rising from a circular base. This example was commissioned by a local client.

Lamp of the Week: 20" Acorn

The generous proportions of the 20" Acorn shade give this lamp a commanding presence. The "acorn" pattern was originally designed as a "leaf border", but the nut inspired moniker has become the accepted name for this pattern. Commissioned by a client in Louisiana in 2011, the shade uses heavily mottled green glass for the upper and lower geometric sections. The green background on the decorative band is slightly lighter in tone and the acorns are a rich amber. The shade is shown on the Decorated Library base.

22" Peony

We are starting 2018 with a burst of color! This week we completed the first lamp of the new year, a 22" Peony shade that we began during the holiday season. Blending together a delicious mix of glass in saturated colors and textures, this shade is a veritable feast for the eyes.
The 22" Peony shade has a bold design aesthetic that calls for skillful glass selection. Towards the top of this shade the flowers blend from a lightly textured fuchsia into striated reds and lush purples. The flower colors are supported by a shifting background that includes mottled, streaky, and fracture glass in mixed tones of deep blue and green highlighted with amber, purple, red, and fuchsia. The intensely rippled deep green border rows towards the bottom of the shade underscore the colors and various textures found throughout the shade.

When experiencing a lamp in person, it is exciting to experience how your eye blends colors together at a distance that are distinctly individual when viewed close up. This is the same visual experience one has when viewing an Impressionist painting.

Over the years at Tiffany Studios, the 22" Peony pattern was subtly changed several times. This popular shade has three distinct variations, plus a forth "elaborate" version. At Century Studios, we offer both versions with the double lower borders (there is a third version with three borders) and the 22" Elaborate Peony shade. This lamp was commissioned by a client in the Chicago area and is shown on the Twisted Vine base.
