Lamp of the Week:

At Century Studios, we create reproductions of Tiffany geometric shades in a multitude of shapes and sizes. One of the largest geometric shades we offer is the 24" Parasol. The simplicity of the design is accentuated by the flat metal rim which follows the curvature of the shade, providing a bold underline for the piece. At 29" in height, the Mandarin Lotus base creates a tall, elegant lamp where the shade appears to float above the table top. This lamp was created in a warm butterscotch tone and was made as a showroom piece in 2012. It is now in a private collection in Maine.

16" Geometric Shades

This past week we completed two 16" Geometric (Small Piece) shades in wildly different colorations for two different clients. The first is an orange/amber shade that was commissioned by a local client.

The deep midnight blue on the second shade has a distinctive look. This lamp was commissioned by a client in North Carolina. Both shades are shown on the versatile Small Stick base (20" tall).

Lamp of the Week:

The generously proportioned 28" Wisteria makes an impressive floor lamp or chandelier fixture. For this shade we used a mix of blue, lavender and white blossoms intermingled with fresh green foliage. The mottled glass gives the flowers a sun dappled appearance, while the irregular lower border and lobed shape creates a naturalistic look. This shade was created in 2007 as a showroom piece and is now installed as a chandelier fixture in a local collection.

22" Elaborate Peony

We have completed the 22" Elaborate (or Windswept) Peony shade. Shown on the impressive Large Bamboo Table Base (27" tall), this generously proportioned Tiffany Studios shade design is known for its intricate piecework and stunning depiction of peonies in full bloom.

The cerulean blue background provides a lively backdrop that enlivens the multitude of red flowers.

The design of this impressive shade clusters the flowers with intricate foliage bridging the space between the blooms. The impressionistic use of color throughout the shade enhances the complexity of the design. This impressive shade was commissioned by a client in Illinois.

Lamp of the Week: 20" Windswept Daffodil

It is well known that Louis Comfort Tiffany's favorite flower was the daffodil, and the daffodils appear on lamp shades ranging from 14" to 28". The 20" Windswept Daffodil is a lively rendition of this bright, cheery flower with the blooms dancing across the surface of the shade. Commissioned by a New Jersey client in 2013, this shade was created in vibrant jewel tones of green, yellow and deep orange/amber. The shade is perfectly mated with the Twisted Vine base (24.5" tall).

Last Week At The Studio

The past two weeks have been very busy at the studio. The 22" Elaborate Peony moved from the light table to near completion and two geometric lamps got cut and are ready to foil. We are also pleased to announce that we have completed production on the large 6" Pigtail Cap. This is the final heat cap that we have been working on to complete our line of reproduction Tiffany vent caps.

Irwin completed the layout for the 22" Elaborate Peony, adding the final flowers and leaves.

Both Irwin and Bill began foiling on the lamp, but Irwin then moved on to cutting and fitting two 16" Geometric shades while Bill completed the foiling.
While the foiled pieces were transferred onto the form by Irwin, Bill switched to doing patina work on two lamp bases for upcoming shades.

Transferring complete, Irwin worked on the soldering while Bill completed the patina on the bases and began foiling one of the geometric shades. We are now nearing completion on the 22" Elaborate Peony shade and will show the finished lamp next week.

Lamp of the Week: 28" Lemon Tree with Birds Chandelier

The 28" Lemon Tree with Birds is a Century Studios original shade design by Bill Campbell. This generously proportioned shade takes its inspiration from a Tiffany Studios pictorial wall mosaic. Groupings of blue and yellow birds nestle among tree branches laden with ripening fruit. This example has a tropical color palette with a strong emphasis on yellow, green, and turquoise. The rich browns of the intertwining tree branches and shots of blue in the birds add definition to the color scheme.

This shade  was commissioned by a client in Pennsylvania in 2016, and has been installed as a chandelier fixture over a table.

18" Clematis

The 18" Clematis shade is a favorite Tiffany pattern and is an ideal vehicle to use exciting blue glasses in profusion. The non-repeating pattern presents a clustered mass of clematis flowers covering the surface of the shade. For this example, the flowers are a lively mix of textured, streaky, mottled and striated glasses in light and dark blues. The flowers intermingle against a blended background of green and light amber.

Commissioned by a client in Ohio, the shade is perfectly mated with the elegant Library base (22.5" tall).

Lamp of the Week: 16" Persian

The 16" Persian Shade with Chain Mail is a geometric lamp with an exotic look.  The sunny yellow upper and lower geometric portions bookmark a decorative band of arabesques in accent tones of green and orange. Three rows of Chain Mail have been added to this shade, giving the piece an unique profile. We can add Chain Mail to almost any shade, and it is especially effective on chandelier fixtures. The lamp was commissioned in 2012 by a client in Kentucky and is shown on the willowy Grooved base (26" tall).
